Elementary school is a time of exploration, wonder, and growth. At Covenant we surround our students in a dynamic Christ-centered community. Our children are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, learning to build relationships with their teachers and fellow students in a safe environment. In lessons, chapel, activities, and recess, we front-load our students with strong Christian values and a love of the Lord that will prepare them as they grow into middle and high schoolers.

Excellence in Education
The Elementary School curriculum is designed to provide students with a thorough and cohesive program of learning based on a Christian framework. Teachers assist students in developing necessary skills and knowledge, while fueling the natural curiosity of young children. They work to help students establish a commitment to excellence. Through scheduled curriculum review and evaluation, teachers update and refine teaching material and instructional techniques in an effort to help students reach essential grade-level proficiency. The scope of learning in each subject area is designed to build on the previous year's instruction and to prepare students for success in the next grade level. Through well-planned assignments increasing in complexity and essential independence, students leaving our elementary school are well prepared to meet the middle school years with confidence.
Standards-Based Curriculum
Our reading program, a researched backed literacy curriculum by Abeka, is designed to build confidence in young readers. Text build knowledge, and practice reinforces foundational reading skills. Robust assessment data provides teachers the information they need to differentiate reading instruction and monitor student progress.
The standard grade level math curriculum is through the well established Abeka series. Our math program offers an advanced math strand for qualifying students in all grades. This includes all standard course material at an accelerated pace, plus daily enrichment to foster problem-solving and critical thinking.
Exposing young students to the sciences is a critical part of elementary curriculum. Natural science grabs students attention, especially when it is taught by visiting science museums. Regular STEM activities are a vital part of our science curriculum.
Our school offers a robust curriculum with many opportunities for academic advancement. A Christian education offers added value for multiple reasons:
Biblical Worldview: Since we incorporate our faith into the academic curriculum, our students will develop a Christian worldview through the curse of the year. They will have the opportunity to grow in their faith through discussion with their peers and faculty.
Character Development: We instill Christian values every day through our academics, athletics, and extracurricular options. Students will learn faith, discipline, and other excellent attributes.
Role Models: Our qualified and experienced staff is made up of exemplary role models from whom your child can take all kinds of life lessons. We believe in surrounding every child with guiding figures to help them grow into their potential.
Small Class Sizes: Since Christian elementary schools tend to be more exclusive, we can offer smaller class sizes and more individualized attention for each student, helping your child succeed academically and socially.
Bible Class: Bible classes aim to develop basic biblical literacy in children. Children learn they are made in the image of God, are loved by Him, and are made for a purpose. They begin to understand the meaning of "biblical framework."

Benefits of a Christian Education
Dedicated Faculty Who are Experts in their Field
One of the primary goals at the Elementary school is teaching kids how to be students of God's word, God's world, and each other. Christian schooling allows us to front load our children's faith. Seven hours a day, more than 1,000 hours a year, our children learn in a Christian environment. They study the Bible. They learn about Jesus. They see God's handwork in science and history. They see God's order in math and his creativity and beauty in art and music. Ultimately, they learn to think and live in a way that honors Him. Each day, each month, each year they learn from the godly teachers and staff, and they become better equipped to make a difference for Christ.

Elementary School Curriculum
Covenant Academy kindergarten students develop a love of reading by exploring various types of literature in a phonics based program. They enjoy hands on activities in math and science and go on a variety of fields trips to explore our region. Computers, chapel, hands on art, music, and personal expression round out their day and prepare them to be 1st graders who are prepared to learn!
Kindergarten is a vital step in your child's educational and social development. Not only do students begin to learn the building blocks of knowledge that will shape the rest of their academic careers, they begin learning cooperative play, sharing, and other vital social skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Kindergarteners learn everything from the alphabet to tying their shoes, and our staff is here to help. At our Christian kindergarten, we establish a lifelong love of learning in our students while helping them develop their skills, pursue their interests, and grow into considerate neighbors. Our faith based educational system will give them the tools they need to succeed in the modern world while giving them a strong foundation in traditional values.

1st graders are eager to read and write. Students in 1st grade build on a foundation of letter sounds, sight words, and decoding abilities. A significant portion of the day is devoted to the development of these skills, taking students from a variety of starting points to ever increasing independence in the language arts. Handwriting skills are developed for consistency in size, slant, and legibility, and spelling lessons begin. Students have many opportunities to put their thoughts into writing.
Math lessons introduce new skills daily, which are reviewed and maintained throughout the year. 1st graders are expected to develop a mastery of addition facts.
Students begin to work independently to complete tasks. By the end of the year, students are excited about finding scripture verses and familiar stories in the Bible that they have studied throughout the year. They're off and running!

Students in 2nd grade become more independent as they start to apply previously learned basic skills. They discover reading for enjoyment and develop writing skills as a form of communication. Instruction in phonics continues, while increasing the amount of time on reading comprehension and reading fluency.
2nd graders become firmly anchored in addition and subtraction facts. This provides a strong basis for all other math functions. Children become more aware of the world around them through a study of the seven continents, and , along with hands on science units, this adds a lot of fun! The 2nd grade Bible curriculum focuses on the life of Christ and allows them to respond in faith to the Gospel message.

Students in the 3rd grade are ready to develop more as independent readers. Students fine tune their reading comprehension skills and learn to analyze a text by summarizing, comparing, and contrasting characters and events. The reading program is novel based, with plenty of nonfiction reading as well. Emphasis is placed on writing for different purposes, such as narrating, informing, describing, and researching. The development of skills in reading, research, and writing culminnate in the presentation of a state report.
The 3rd grade child reviews addition and subraction facts, and then works to master multiplication facts. More demanding math concepts, math vocabulary, and modeled lessons encourage students to think mathematically.
Hand's on study of science allows them to experience God's hand in nature's cycles. Egyptian and Native American cultures are some of the ancient groups that form the basis of an engaging 3rd grade Social Studies program. In Bible, a survey of the early Old Testament help students discover God's faithfulness in keeping his promises to his people. Through a variety of learning activities and experiences 3rd grade kids discover the joy of learning, and developing intellectually, socially, and spiritually.

The Covenant elementary school physical education curriculum seeks to build basic fundamental movement and manipulative skills as well as fitness awareness. Age appropriate planning allows for growth and development, allowing for instruction in popular, active sports as children mature. Students learn that "offering our body as a living sacrifice...is our spiritual worship." Our physical education program encourages personal fitness and a commitment to excellence. Students become aware of their physical gifts and potential through their participation in the program.

At Covenant, we work to bring musical knowledge and skill to the service of Jesus Christ. Our elementary school students learn the basic components of music including rhythm, pitch, and beat.
In class, our students listen and move to music, learn to read musical notation in order to play classroom instruments, and learn to sing melody and harmony. Our program incorporates a variety of styles, cultures, and historical periods. We strive for excellence in all these areas, whether in a classroom or performance setting, with a heartfelt devotion to the Lord of Creation.

Art instruction is designed to bring out the inner artist in each child. We use of a variety of media and techniques in a sequential and age appropriate format to help children produce and enjoy art. Lessons are taught with a variety of teaching methods to accommodate various learning abilities. Biblical themes and Scripture are used throughout the curriculum to reinforce Christian principles and truths. Each child's art is regularly displayed in our halls to all to enjoy.
Every child is encouraged to experience success and satisfaction by creating works of art, each in their own way, in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. All children participate in art exhibits throughout the year.
The elementary school library consists of approximately 10,000 volumes of fiction, non-fiction, reference materials and periodicals appropriate for children through 3rd grade. Our library program allows students to access the elementary school collection, listen to stories, and develop as readers. Our teacher manages the accelerated reader program and inspires young children to become avid readers. Students in grades 2-3 receive prizes and recognition for their reading accomplishments.
